Do you ever wonder how ‘those people’ on Instagram can live in a house with so much white … with kids … and a messy dog?!
Do you ever feel discouraged when you see these perfectly coifed houses when you scroll through Instagram or Pinterest?! Maybe you feel like giving up because her house is so unlike yours that is doesn’t even seem realistic?!
It’s easy to get wrapped up in these beautiful and perfect homes (and lives) on Instagram and Pinterest. You may be rolling your eyes right now at me for saying this because possibly you think my home is one of these perfect homes. IT’S NOT!
Here is the reality … NO home EVER looks as good as it does on Instagram or Pinterest. EVER. Period. I mean it! I speak from experience!
In this post, I’ll shed more light on REAL VS. (highlight) REEL … and I’ll sprinkle in photos of my REAL house vs. my (Instagram) REEL house! Warning: unedited, blurry, (horrible) photos of my home below!
We all know to some degree that Instagram tends to be a highlight reel of life … there ARE some (brave) Instagrammers who do show real life (kudos to them), but not many!
Even though we know (deep down) that people are selective about what they share (i.e. they only share the good stuff), we still get that nagging feeling that we just don’t measure up and that we’re somehow doing life wrong.
What we don’t see is the full “picture”. For all we know, that beautifully poised mom with beautifully styled children may have just screamed at said children to smile at the camera! We’ll never know … but that doesn’t stop us from creating our own stories in our head of how perfect her life or home or family is.
Instagram is largely a facade and we ALL need to remember this!! We live in an overly sharing society and looking at highlight reels can wreak havoc on how we feel about ourselves, our homes, our ability to parent, etc.
I’m pulling back the curtain and showing you my real house vs my reel house! Hopefully this will help us all (including me) remember that you can’t believe everything you see on Instagram!!
In all honesty, I am cleaner than most people (it’s a curse actually), but there are ALWAYS piles of homework, kids’ craft supplies, iPad cords, laundry, dishes in the sink, etc. laying around the house. What you DON’T see in my INSTAGRAM FEED is the pile of CRAP just outside the lens of the camera!
Just know that NOTHING is as perfect as it seems on Instagram! The only way for a house to look so perfect in real life is if NO ONE lives there!
I’d love for you to join me over on INSTAGRAM! Yes, you’ll see my curated feed, but my instagram stories are the REAL deal!
I hope that seeing photos of my REAL house vs. my Instagram REEL house helps you understand that Instagram can be a total façade! I would LOVE to hear from YOU! Have you ever experienced feeling less than when looking at Instagram?
LOL- love real life! My home is the same way- company has no idea in betweeen but I will say now that we are empty nested it is much better! It is dog hair that’s cleaned up most now…
I’m so glad you enjoyed this post … and can relate 🙂
Love that you are keeping it real!! All that Instagram perfection can be sort of intimidating. (To a point that I’ve stopped following some folks so that I can focus on reality)
I do the same thing sometimes! I get more wrapped up in the ‘perfect moms’ … and have to stop following them for my own sanity! Thank you SO much for reading my post :)!
