Serena & Lily Counter Stools: Look for Less

Serena & Lily’s coastal-style counter stools are gorgeous, but some of them are pretty pricey. Thankfully, they have great sales periodically and this is a fabulous time to buy the stools OR you have a second option … you can buy Serena & Lily counter stools: Look for Less dupes.

I’ve scoured the internet to find less expensive options that look very similar to some of Serena & Lily’s most popular stools (i.e the Balboa counter stool, the Riviera counter stool, and the Backless Riviera counter stool).

Affiliate links are used for your convenience. Read my full disclosure policy here.

SERENA & LILY BALBOA COUNTER STOOL

This is one of my absolute favorite woven counter stools! I would have purchased the Balboa stools (in mist or natural) if I hadn’t custom-recovered my own counter stools right before the Balboa was released as an option.

I’m still keeping this stool in mind for the future … and I would most definitely buy it during one of their fabulous sales (not the full price because it’s $$$).

It comes in a grey wash (mist) and a natural woven finish; both options are stunning. Make sure to also purchase a Balboa stool cushion (which comes in a variety of fabric choices) to make seating comfier.

BALBOA STOOL: LOOK FOR LESS

Let me tell you … it was HARD to find a perfect Balboa stool dupe. It’s a unique stool and I couldn’t find an exact match.

The closest alternative I found was the Sullivan Woven Dining Counter Stool from Williams Sonoma Home.

This stool has a similar silhouette as the Balboa but lacks the gold bar detail on the Balboa footrest.

SERENA & LILY RIVIERA COUNTER STOOL

Another Serena & Lily favorite is the Riviera counter stool, which comes in a variety of colors.

Not only is it a trendy and beautiful stool, but it’s also super practical!

The woven material is easy to wipe off grimy little kid spills and fingerprints :).

RIVIERA STOOL: LOOK FOR LESS

The World Market’s Black And White Woven Rattan Carla Counter Stool is a great Riviera counter stool dupe and it was only a fraction of the price!

Another option I found (Pottery Barn’s Parisian Woven counter stool) is slightly less expensive than the actual Riviera stool but comes in a natural woven material.

SERENA & LILY RIVIERA BACKLESS COUNTER STOOL

If you love the style of the Riviera stool but don’t want a back on your stool, you’re in luck! The Riviera backless counter stool is a great alternative, and like the Riviera with a back, this backless stool also comes in a variety of colors.

RIVIERA BACKLESS: LOOK FOR LESS

Wayfair’s Alastair counter stool looks VERY similar to the Riviera backless stool and is almost half the cost!

CONCLUSION

Serena & Lily’s coastal-style counter stools are gorgeous, but some of them are pretty pricey. In this post, I shared Serena & Lily counter stools: Look for Less dupes for three of the most popular stools: the Balboa, the Riviera, and the Backless Riviera.

If you really have your heart set on the ‘real thing’ (i.e. the Serena & Lily stools), buy the stools during one of Serena & Lily’s fabulous sales that happen periodically throughout the year :).

Serena & Lily: Counter Stools

  1. Georgia Vaaler says:

I love your thoughtful review of Serena and Lily stools. We have just purchased the Portside counter stool and it’s lovely. However, I’m a little skeptical of the quality of the construction and question the investment. Just received so we can still return. Any thoughts on Portside? Or just the overall quality of their wood construction? Sounds like you’ve really studied these and I would sure value your opinion.
    Thanks so much!!
(I think the WS stool is a great option to the Balboa. Very pretty and looks sturdy.)

    Kindly,
    Georgia

    • Hi Georgia! I don’t have personal experience with the Portside stool. If you feel like the quality is not worthy of the price tag (bc it is EXPENSIVE), then I would probably return the stools.

    • samantha says:

Did you end up keeping them? I just received mine and I LOVE the look of them but think they need a cushion because they are so rough and keep poking everyone.

  2. Libby says:

Any insight as to when the sales usually happen? And how deep the discounts are? Thanks!

  3. Gretchen says:

Do you have any suggestions similar to the Millbrook stool?

  4. Daniel Grandjean says:

    Hi Carrie,
this is a lovely review and we are looking for exactly what you are describing here in terms of these and also dining chairs. The one little issue that we are having is that we are located in Ireland and cannot find anything similar locally here and are struggling to find shops that ship globally. If you have any tips here, I would be delighted to hear from you by email.

    Kind Regards
Daniel Grandjean (on the west coast of Ireland building and decorating a new house).

  5. Harry A says:

Have you seen any dupes of the Aubrey stools from rove concepts?

  6. Tina C. says:

Where are the stools and chairs from that are pictured in the very top kitchen image?

  7. Megan says:

Where are the table chairs from in the inspiration photo (1st photo) of this post?! Looking for them/something similar for my home!

    • Hi Megan! Unfortunately, this photo is a stock image so I don’t know where the table and chairs are from. I’ve seen similar chairs though HERE. I have never ordered from this company so I can’t speak to the company … I just wanted to show you where you can find a similar chair.
