It’s a new-ish year and that means new design trends … including paint color trends for 2021. In this blog post, I’ll share the color trends for my two (favorite) go-to paint brands, Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore.

Below are the ‘paint colors of the year’ for both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore as well as other trending 2021 colors for these retailers. As always, there are some really great colors and some that are a little more *adventurous*, shall we say?!

If you’re building a new home or you’re ready to refresh your existing home with a fresh coat of paint, I think you’ll find some great paint color inspiration below :).

GENERAL PAINT TIPS (TO KEEP IN MIND)

TIP 1: Neutral paint is typically a good idea when it comes to painting the main areas of your home.

TIP 2: You can be more adventurous and try some of the other fun trending colors in your bedrooms, laundry room, or powder room. Many of these colors would look gorgeous on kitchen cabinets, laundry cabinets, office cabinets, or pantry cabinets as well.

TIP 3: Choose paint colors that YOU like! This is YOUR home and you can have bold colors throughout if that’s what you want. You do you!

TIP 4: I (highly) recommend that you try samples of paint colors in your home before purchasing the paint. Samplize peel and stick paint samples are a simple, mess-free option to see paint colors in your home. Read about my sample color accuracy test here.

BENJAMIN MOORE COLOR OF THE YEAR 2021

IMAGE via BENJAMIN MOORE

Benjamin Moore’s color of the year in 2021 is Aegean Teal (2136-40). This color is pretty freakin’ amazing! While it’s a bold color to put on walls, I would totally paint my laundry room cabinets this bright, gorgeous shade of teal. Also, it would look really beautiful against white trim work (I’m thinking the bottom 2/3 of the wall trimmed with white wainscoting and the top third of the wall painted Aegean Teal).

Order a peel and stick sample of Benjamin Moore Aegean Teal.

SHERWIN WILLIAMS COLOR OF THE YEAR 2021

Sherwin Williams’ color of the year in 2021 is Urbane Bronze (SW7048). This dramatic mix between a deep gray and brown is stunning! I have seen several photos and it looks great just about anywhere … walls (especially against white trim work), home exteriors, and on cabinets. You can’t go wrong with Urbane Bronze!

Order a peel and stick sample of Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze.

BENJAMIN MOORE COLOR TRENDS 2021

In addition to Aegean Teal, Benjamin Moore has 11 other paint colors trending in this year’s color palette.

This color palette is a beautiful collection of earthy, natural colors that range from very neutral (Atrium White, Muslin, Grey Cashmere, and Foggy Morning) to bold and sophisticated (Amazon Soil and Silhouette) and some natural jewel tones (Beacon Hill Damask, Chestertown Buff, Potter’s Clay, and Rosy Peach) in the mix as well.

  • Aegean Teal 2136-40
  • Grey Cashmere 2138-60
  • Atrium White OC-145
  • Muslin OC-12

  • Amazon Soil 2115-30
  • Silhouette AF-655
  • Kingsport Gray HC-86
  • Beacon Hill Damask HC-2
  • Chestertown Buff HC-9

SHERWIN WILLIAMS COLOR TRENDS 2021

Sherwin Williams does things a little differently than Benjamin Moore. Rather than just one trending color palette for 2021, they have FOUR forecasted color palettes (which = 40 colors total).

40 colors is A LOT for me to cover in a little blog post, so we’re only going to focus on my two favorite palettes: Sanctuary and Encounter … both have earthy tones that are absolutely stunning!

‘SANCTUARY’ COLOR PALETTE

The Sherwin Williams’ Sanctuary color palette is a beautiful blend of earthy, natural colors that are also bold (i.e. Urbane Bronze). The only color that I would be a lil bit scared to use is ‘Antiquarian Brown’. I would certainly need to see a sample of that before ordering! The ‘Canyon Clay’ is really jumping out at me … it would look AMAZING on cabinets!

SHERWIN WILLIAMS ‘SANCTUARY’ COLORS

  • Pure White SW 7005
  • Messenger Bag SW 7740
  • Morris Room Grey SW 0037
  • Antiquarian Brown SW 0045
  • Oakmoss SW 6180
  • Bona Fide Beige SW 6065
  • Modern Grey SW 7632
  • Urbane Bronze SW 7048
  • Pearl Gray SW 0052
  • Canyon Clay SW 6054

‘ENCOUNTER’ COLOR PALETTE

The Encounter color palette is actually very similar to the Sanctuary color palette in that it’s fairly neutral. However, it also incorporates a blue shade (Blustery Sky) that would look GORGEOUS on cabinets as well as a couple of earthy jewel colors (Tarnished Trumpet and Reddened Earth) that are really stunning too.

SHERWIN WILLIAMS ‘ENCOUNTER’ COLORS

  • Java SW 6090
  • Alabaster SW 7008
  • Natural Tan SW 7567
  • Rosemary SW 6187
  • Naval SW 6244
  • Jubilee SW 6248
  • Tarnished Trumpet SW 9026
  • Reddened Earth SW 6053
  • Blustery Sky SW 9140
  • Hardware SW 6172

Order a peel and stick sample of one (or more) of Sherwin Williams’ trending paint colors.

So … what do you think? Do you see any colors above that you want to give a shot?! I wish I had a room (or cabinets) in my home to paint right now because I think the paint color trends for 2021 are just GORGEOUS!

Go ahead and order some mess-free samples of your favorite colors that you want to test out. This is an inexpensive way to test all of these fun colors without making the commitment of actually painting your walls (or cabinets)! Happy painting!
