[…] BEST EXTERIOR WHITE PAINT COLORS […]
We will be painting the exterior of our home in a few weeks, including the brick. I’m struggling with choosing the right white. We installed new white vinyl windows last year which will not be painted. How do I choose a white paint that will work with the windows? I don’t want a stark white paint.
Hi Tina! I encourage you to order some paint samples of potential white colors and see how they all look with your white windows. Another helpful thing would be to hire a local designer to help you choose the perfect white paint color for your exterior.
Tina what color did you go with? Our builder got white instead of our black windows we paid for *errrggg*. We don’t want to wait 3 months to correct their mistake so we will move forward and change our cream exterior to a white. Any suggestions!? We can’t go and sample the brick.
What a bummer, Reni! I hope (and assume) you’ll be reimbursed for the extra you paid for black windows. I would attempt to match the white paint as close to the windows as possible so the whites don’t clash. My suggestion is to purchase several
‘peel and stick’ samples (click here) of white paint options to see which ones are the closest match to your white windows. Best of luck to you :). -Carrie
Hello,
Would love your advice on the following
I have a white painted brick home (white duck) with white vinyl windows and black entrance door and black decorative details ie. sconces etc. Now I need to paint the gable and trim. Should I paint my gables and trim the same white as the home. Would a brighter white add contrast or confusion. Love your blog!
Hi Shauna! I prefer to keep all whites the same. Not everyone has this philosophy but I’m always afraid different white colors will clash.
I am a designer in Anchorage. I’ve been researching white paint colors to cover exterior clear heart redwood cladding. Your excellent article on white exterior paint colors has ended my search. White Dove by Benjamin Moore is clean and easy on the eyes but not stark or sterile. Just right. Thank you for sharing colors by giving viewers large photos of your well-selected choices. Thank you for your generosity.
Caroline,
Once you have your color picked out – what is the right paint shen to get? There are lots of choices? Should I splurge on Aura for brick?
You’ve probably already found an answer, but I would talk to the paint people. Also, I have a blog post all about paint sheen. You can do a ‘search’ for that on my blog. Best! -Carrie
