WHERE TO SPLURGE WHEN DECORATING

SPLURGE on the STAPLE PIECES… that is, furniture that your family will use on a daily basis! Your family room couch, kitchen chairs, kitchen island stools, beds, and rugs that take a lot of wear and tear.

When I say splurge, I don’t mean that you have to buy expensive custom furniture by any means! Just make sure that you are buying at least mid-level priced items because this furniture will get A LOT of use!

Remember this … you get what you pay for! If you buy low-cost furniture, you’ll be replacing it in a couple of years anyway … which = more money!

My big ‘splurges’ are our family room sectional, our kitchen island stools, and our beds! These pieces of furniture get more use than anything else in our house and they are pieces I know I’ll keep for several years. I want them to stand up to wear and tear over time!

When splurging on a piece of furniture, focus on neutral fabrics and classic furniture styles. Choose neutral fabrics for upholstered beds and sofas. (If you think neutral is boring, you’ll see how you can easily change the look below!) Tans, greys, and whites never go out of style! Same with simple furniture lines.

WHERE TO SAVE WHEN DECORATING

SAVE on the small home décor items that can be easily changed to give the room a fresh look! That is … throw pillows, little knick-knacks (accents), lamps, art, bedding, etc. SAVE on the items that WILL go out of style fairly quickly, or that you might change your mind on often.
