If you’re on the hunt for the perfect white paint color for your home exterior, I’ve got you covered. 🙌
This episode is actually based on a blog post I wrote six years ago. I rounded up the best exterior white paint colors at the time (in 2020).
And the crazy thing is that the same whites are ALL still popular today … six years later.
That longevity shows how timeless the white paint colors I’ve rounded up are.
If you’ve followed me for any time, you know that I’m all about timeless over trendy when it comes to design … and choosing what YOU love for YOUR house.
I actually have one of these white colors ALL over the inside of my house … my doors, trim, ceilings, cabinets, built-ins, etc. I’ve been in my house almost 13 years, and I still LOVE this white paint color. Talk about timeless!
All right, let’s get into it!

Are white exteriors still popular in 2026?
Yes, white exteriors are still popular in 2026 … especially warm white exteriors!
Designers return to warm, creamy whites year after year because they work with almost every architectural style, from farmhouse to traditional brick to cottage to modern new construction.
White exteriors aren’t just popular … they’re timeless and classic.
That’s exactly why the colors I recommended back in 2020 are still showing up on the best-of lists today.
What are the most popular white paint colors for home exteriors?
A few colors keep coming up over and over again, and you’ll find them on my list below.
Benjamin Moore ‘White Dove’ consistently lands at the top. Sherwin-Williams ‘White Duck’ and ‘Oyster White’ are also longtime favorites, and Benjamin Moore ‘Swiss Coffee’ is a newer go-to for color consultants who want a warm, beautiful off-white.
All of these whites are on the warmer (i.e. creamier) side.
Okay, now let’s get to the good stuff and talk about the best exterior white paint colors.
1. Benjamin Moore ‘China White’

China White is a soft, warm white that stops it from looking flat or too stark. It’s creamy without going yellow, which makes it really easy to work with.
It does great in full sun too … it stays warm instead of washing out, which a lot of cooler whites can’t say.

2. Sherwin-Williams ‘Oyster White’

Oyster White has a soft gray-beige undertone that keeps it from going too stark or too creamy — it lands right in the middle.
It works really well if you’re pairing your exterior with a darker roof, dark wood accents, or black windows.
It can look a little different in shade vs. sun, so definitely sample it on all sides of your house.

3. Sherwin-Williams ‘White Duck’

White Duck is very popular. It’s a warm, greige-leaning white that pairs really well with wood, stone, and black trim or black hardware details.Â
If you’re building a farmhouse, craftsman, or transitional-style home, this one is worth adding to your list.

4. Benjamin Moore ‘White Dove’

Okay, this is the white I have ALL over my home interior. Our cabinets, doors, trim, ceilings, windows … all White Dove. And I still LOVE it 13 years later! 😄
It’s a clean white with just enough warmth to keep it from feeling stark or clinical. It’s one of those colors that just works in almost any light and with almost any style. If you want a white that’s truly timeless (and isn’t too stark or too yellow), White Dove is a great place to start.

5. Benjamin Moore ‘Sailcloth’

Sailcloth is the warmest, creamiest white on this list. It has more depth than a true white, which makes it look really rich without going all the way into beige.
It pairs really well with darker trim, natural stone, or copper and bronze hardware.
If you’re going for a French country, coastal, or traditional look, Sailcloth is worth a try.

And this last one is a 2026 addition that is super popular with designers for both interiors and exteriors.
6. Benjamin Moore ‘Swiss Coffee’ (My 2026 Addition!)

Swiss Coffee is a warm, creamy white that’s become a go-to for many color consultants lately.
Think of it as White Dove’s slightly warmer cousin.
It looks really beautiful on painted brick or a smooth exterior, and it pairs well with greige or taupe shutters if you want a little more dimension.

How do you test exterior paint colors before buying?
Keep in mind that paint colors can look VERY different on your phone or computer than they do in person … or even on other people’s houses.
Photo editing changes things. Lighting changes things. Your specific home’s exposure and surroundings change things.
So you definitely want to sample white paint colors before making a decision and committing.
There are a few things that affect how a white will look on your exterior. These include:
- Your roof color (a warm-toned roof pulls warm undertones out of your exterior paint color)
- Your surroundings (trees, landscaping, and neighboring homes all affect how color looks)
- Your natural light direction (a north-facing home looks very different than a south-facing one)
So how do you test exterior paint colors before committing?
Samplize Peel and Stick Paint Samples
My favorite way to test paint colors is with Samplize peel-and-stick paint samples.Â
This is my GO-TO resource for mess-free paint samples.
They’re made with real paint, and they have samples for all Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore colors (they also carry Farrow & Ball samples).
I’ve tested Samplize peel-and-stick samples in my own home, and the color is SPOT ON.
There is no painting required … you just peel, stick, and see the color exactly as it looks on your home in your light.Â
I recommend ordering at least two samples of your top color options so you can create a larger swatch and really see how it looks.
Also, be sure to live with the samples for a few days and watch how the color changes from morning to evening light before committing to a color.
